Patient FAQs

We know switching to a new kind of healthcare can raise questions. Here are the answers to the ones we hear most often.

What is Direct Primary Care?

Direct Primary Care is a simple, membership-based model of healthcare. You pay one clear monthly fee and receive unlimited access to your doctor. There are no copays, no surprise bills, and no insurance paperwork involved in your primary care visits.

Do I still need health insurance?

Yes, most of our patients keep a health insurance plan (often a high-deductible plan) for major medical events like hospital stays, surgeries, specialist visits, and imaging. DPC covers your everyday primary care, while insurance covers the bigger things.

Can I use my HSA or FSA?

Yes. Many members use their Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA) to pay for membership and any recommended labs or services.

How do labs and medications work?

We coordinate labs at deeply discounted cash rates (often 50–80% less than insurance prices). Medications can be filled at local pharmacies or through affordable options we help arrange. We do not bill insurance for these.

What if I need to see a specialist?

We will coordinate the referral and work with your specialist to make sure your care stays connected and efficient.

Is Direct Access Primary Care right for me?

DPC is a great fit if you want a real relationship with your doctor, value longer visits, prefer transparent pricing, and are tired of insurance getting in the way of good care. If you’re unsure, we’re happy to talk through it with you.

How do I access my medical records?

There is not an automated way to access your medical records via the  Atlas.md Patient Application, but if you would like a copy of your medical records feel free to call the office at 254-237-3281, and we will happily get your records to you. They can be emailed to you or picked up at the office.

How do I file a complaint?

If something about your visit, your care, or your experience with our team didn't sit right, please reach out to us. We'd genuinely like the chance to make it right.

If you'd prefer to file a formal complaint, or if your concern involves the quality of medical care you received, you have the right to file a complaint with the Texas Medical Board at tmb.texas.gov/page/place-a-complaint.

Please know that choosing to file a complaint, with us or with the Texas Medical Board, will never affect the quality of care you receive at Direct Access Primary Care. We hold no ill will toward patients who raise concerns, and you will never be treated differently as a result.

Employer FAQs

Does Direct Access Primary Care replace health insurance?

Not exactly — and that's actually one of its biggest strengths. DPC works best when paired with a high-deductible health plan or catastrophic coverage for major medical events. Think of DPC as handling day-to-day healthcare needs while insurance covers the unexpected big stuff. Many employers are also pairing DPC with medical cost-sharing plans as a cost-effective alternative to traditional insurance.

Do I have to enroll all of my employees?

No. Our membership options are flexible. You can choose to cover all employees, a specific group, or offer a partial contribution and let employees cover the remainder. We'll work with you to find the best fit.

Is there an enrollment period?

No. Because Direct Access Primary Care is not insurance, there are no enrollment windows. You can enroll or unenroll employees at any time — making it a highly flexible benefit for growing businesses.

How does DPC affect our overall healthcare costs?

By giving employees direct access to a physician for everyday needs, you significantly reduce costly ER visits, urgent care trips, and specialist referrals. Fewer claims mean lower premiums over time — and a healthier, more present workforce.

Is insurance required?

No. Direct Access Primary Care does not require employees to have insurance. However, we recommend pairing your membership with some form of catastrophic coverage for major medical events. We're happy to discuss options that work best for your team.

How do I schedule an appointment?

Scheduling an appointment can be easily done by using our online booking system or by calling our facility directly. Our team is here to assist you in finding a suitable time for your visit.
